Text complexity calculator for Russian

The text complexity calculator for Russian approximates how difficult to read or to understand a text segment is. For calculating the readabilty of the segment, the calculator uses the average of the following readability measures:


- Flesch-Kincaid grade level

- Coleman Liau Index score

- (Gunning) Fog

- SMOG index

- Automated Readability Index

- New Dale Chall Adjusted Grade Level

- Powers-Sumner-Kearl Grade Level


The lower the grade, the easier it is to read the text. The lowest value in our readability scala is 5th grade, the highest is the college level. In addition to the readability, we also measure the percentage of common words in the text segment. We define common words as very frequent words (top 5000 most frequent Russian words according to Sharoff), named entities and internationalisms.
